THE BRUCE IRONS MOVIE

Whether or not you like this movie will be a matter of taste. The surfing however, is undeniable. Troy Eckertt has been art directing Volcom surf video’s since the Magna Plasam and Stoney Baloney days during which he developed a flair for the bizarre. Other-worldly figures, trippy music, and unorthodox editing techniques blend to make a true Volcom ensemble. The Bruce Movie proves no different. Editing preferences aside, this movie is sick. The interviews are genuine, and they reflect the close knit bonds that are developed in small surf communities, in this case it’s in Hanalei, Kauai where Bruce and his friends grew up. Even in this 30 minute production you get a pretty full idea of what Bruce’s life is like, especially in the bonus feature section. The level of surfing will melt your pause/rewind button. The movie documents Bruce’s surfing roughly over the past two years, so you get a feel for his capabilities in and out of heats. The air that he blasted one second after the horn blew in J-Bay last year was gargantuan, and his on-rail surfing is no less spectacular. The music, style, and surfing all combine to give this video a distinct flavor. If you are getting ready to amp for a session, and you want something unique to stick out in your head, this is your ticket
